Carbon Monoxide Is Called “The Silent Killer”!
You cannot see, smell or taste carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer and doesn’t have to
give a warning. The greatest risk to you is at night, when you are asleep and don’t realize anything is wrong.
It can get in your home from running the car in the attached garage, even when the garage door is open.
Too often, on cold mornings the car is started, then the garage door opened, and then quickly closed after the car is out. Where does the
carbon monoxide go, but migrates slowly into your house? Off you go to work, leaving kids sleeping in the house.
Or, in Springtime, a crazy small bird gets the notion to try and build a nest in your chimney. It is
small and can squeeze in, even if you have a protective cap on the chimney. If the furnace turns on, the bird collapses from asphyxiation,
and can obstruct the flue pipe. We have also found dead birds in furnaces.

- Why A Digital Carbon Monoxide Detector?
New homes, old homes, all homes need a digital
carbon monoxide detector along with a smoke detector! A digital detector actually gives a reading of how much carbon monoxide is
in the air. Some new detectors are set to go off at 70 ppm, some will go off at lower levels.
The simple alarm types will only go off at 70 ppm.
Since OSHA sets a limit of 35ppm for any eight hour day, we strongly suggest your detector sense &
give the lower readings. A detector may save your life or a family member’s life. Remember
small children and older, fragile adults are more sensitive to lower levels of carbon monoxide then even the OSHA limits. So, they may become ill before you have any symptoms. You won’t know the cause, because you feel
OK.
Customers have had alarms go off during family dinners in cold winter months. The stove, oven, hot water
heater, and furnace all are on and working. Each uses “combustion air”, taking up some of the fresh air in the house. People are coming
in, out of the cold, and quickly closing the front door. Oxygen and fresh air are also being
used by the many people in the home. People smoking add larger amounts of carbon monoxide. So, the air fills with carbon monoxide and carbon
dioxide.
One of the first symptoms of carbon monoxide is a headache. Has a guest left because of an unexpected
headache or just not feeling well? Carbon monoxide might be the cause. Not sure, ask your doctor.
Your workplace also deserves a digital
carbon monoxide detector! This detector is well worth the cost both at home and in the office.
Too often, the News Media is reporting another death due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Think how grateful
you will be if the alarm keeps you out of the News Media.
If your detector is continuously reading low levels of carbon monoxide, you need to call us to check the heating system, flue pipe and hot water heater. Each LACO
truck has a sensitive meter to detect carbon monoxide and once detected can find the culprit. Then, the necessary corrections can be made.
Remember, you can tolerate low levels of carbon monoxide better than your child or older adult.
